Student Supports
Each year, over 15,000 nursing, midwifery and allied health students undertake a training placement in rural or remote Australia that has been facilitated and supported by a UDRH.
Training placements are available in a range of interesting settings, including rural and remote hospitals, primary care, aged care, disability care, mental health services and primary schools.
The UDRHs provide a range of services to support health students on placement including:
- Subsidised accommodation (subject to availability)
- Orientation to the local community and services
- Cultural safety training
- A local point of contact and practical support whilst away from home
- Social support, events and outings
- Access to discipline-specific support via face-to-face or telehealth communication
- Financial support (subject to eligibility).
If you are interested in a rural or remote training placement, please speak first with the student placement coordinator at the relevant UDRH in the region where you wish to undertake your placement to discuss opportunities and timing.
Please note, students who have not had their rural or remote placement organised through a UDRH are not eligible for assistance.
